The San Diego Padres used the 24th pick of the 2008 draft to select Wake Forest's Allan Dykstra who played his high school ball at Rancho Bernardo High School. Dykstra, 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, hit .323 with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs this season.. FF will update as the Friars have 5 of the first 110 selections.
The Padres only selected just one pitcher in the draft's first day, addressing an organizational need for offense. The Friars stayed true to there preference for more polished college players as 38 of their 46 selections came from the college ranks.
