Padres Drop 4th Straight, Drop to Wild Card Tie
The Padres' problems grew Monday as the club dropped its 4th consecutive game 9-4 against the San Fransisco Giants . Young, who was staked a 2 run lead early, gave up 7 earned runs over five inning while walking more batters than he punched out. Cla Meredith was later tagged for a pair of runs - the last coming on a Bruce Bochy-called squeeze. Kevin Kouzmanoff had 2 hits and was hit by a pitch to extend his steak of reaching base to 18 games. He is now tied with Adrian Gonzalez - who added 3 hits of his own - with a .277 batting average. Only Josh Bard's .282 average is higher than the current 3-4 hole Friar hitters.
The loss dropped the Padres into a Wild Card tie with the idle Phillies. They have now fallen 3 games back of the Diamondbacks in the NL West with just 6 games to play.
